What is the Sunrise Movement?

The Sunrise Movement was created in 2017 in our nation's capital, by a group of young people who want to make climate change an urgent priority in The United States. At first, the group's main objective was to elect politicians in favor of renewable energy sources in the 2018 midterm elections, beginning with the Democratic primaries and then in the general election. After the 2018 midterms, the group's focus shifted to creating a consensus within the Democratic Party in regards to The Green New Deal. The group also hopes to remove fossil fuel executives from our government, and elect politicians who genuinely care about the wellbeing of all their constituents. By expanding the movement to high schools and colleges across the Unites States, Sunrise has become a major player in the Democratic Party and media. Each hub has the same objectives: make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, as well as electing leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. Sunrise Wauwatosa
The Wauwatosa Sunrise Hub was established in July of 2020 by Henry Dizard (c/o 2023). After Dizard attended a conference hosted by Sunrise, he felt inspired by their mission that he created a hub in Wauwatosa. After registering with Sunrise, a Snapchat story post, and bringing on friends in as managers, Sunrise Wauwatosa was born.
Ever since then, our hub has been growing and changing, gaining new members with every passing day. Sunrise Tosa has only been active for a bit over a year, but we have accomplished so much. No matter what happens in the world, our country, or our lives, Sunrise Wauwatosa's priorities will always be to make climate change an urgent issue, end the corrupt influence of fossil fuel executives on our national and local politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. As our hub grows and ages, we will always keep those missions in mind. Everything we do, and continue to do is to make the world a better and safer place for all people. For more information about our hub, please contact us at sunrisewauwatosa@gmail.com.
Our Managers
Henry Dizard
Co-Hub Coordinator

"I joined sunrise to fight for climate justice. Climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities, and we need to do everything we can to make sure everyone can thrive in a healthy, sustainable, and equitable society."

Lauren Wunderlich
Action Manager

"I wanted to join Sunrise because it is a way that I can speak up on issues that are important to me, and become active in my community."

Vivi Anderson
Recruitment Manager

"For me, joining Sunrise was less of a decision and more of a survival instinct. When you're drowning in grief and anger about something that is out of your hands, you're going to grab onto anything that might float. Sunrise has given me hope that we may be able to salvage our future, and in turn has inspired me to help others turn their fear into comprehensive action."
Kate Pluta
Communications Manager

"I joined Sunrise because I want to be a part of our country's narrative. Many politicians believe that the young people of today have no influence on our nation because they are not of voting age; I want to prove those people wrong. I believe that The Green New Deal is the best shot at securing my future, and I will fight with every ounce of my being for it."

Maureen Arnold
Art Manager

"I joined Sunrise so that I could focus my creativity into a cause that I am actually passionate about. It was time that I stood up for the Planet that had given me everything for free."

Ella Bartkowski
Training Manager

"I joined Sunrise because I love how beautiful our home is and I think it is so important that we start taking actions to save our earth. I also joined because it is a great way to help our planet while also helping the people on it to have basic human rights!"
