Green New Deal
The Green New Deal is a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society to 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030, a guaranteed living-wage job for anyone who needs one, and a just transition for both workers and frontline communities. The Green New Deal (GND) was co-authored by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Senator Edward Markey of Massachusetts, both prominent figures within Democratic Party. The GND combines President Roosevelt's economic strategy with modern ideas such as renewable energy.
President Roosevelt's economic strategy was called the New Deal, and was designed to get the United States out of the Great Depression. It proposed public works projects, financial reforms, and programs designed to help people affected by the depression. The Green New Deal will begin the process of prying our country away from fossil fuels and becoming reliant on renewable energy. The GND's primary goal is to avoid the worst possible situations regarding climate change, while also trying to fix socioeconomic problems, like racial inequality and economic injustices.

The Sunrise Movement has been instrumental in the lobbying for the GND. There was a sit in at Nancy Pelosi's office before she assumed her position of Speaker of the House, which subsequently led to Speaker Pelosi lending her support in favor of the deal. Representative Ocasio-Cortez joined a group of Sunrise protesters to talk about her ideas which set the groundwork for what ultimately became the joint resolution. The GND is the future. Corrupt politicians are the past. Help us win back the future of our country's climate.
